If you struggle with emotional eating, it can be challenging to eat healthy on a consistent basis. You may have every intention to follow a specific eating plan but then stress or other emotions get in the way and you find yourself reaching for comfort food and deviating from your goals. You may even find that the thought of trying to “eat healthy” feels so restrictive and intimidating that it makes you want to eat more comfort food.

On top of these struggles, hormonal imbalances, sleep difficulties, poor gut health, and not having a healthy daily routine can also increase your cravings and desire to emotionally eat.

Even if you have a general understanding of how to eat well, stress, anxiety, low mood, or boredom interfere with your food choices.

After years of helping patients improve their relationship with food, I’ve created a system that tackles many of the key factors underpinning emotional eating. I created the Healing Emotional Eating program to help you address the underlying mental and physical factors that cause you to emotionally eat so that you can reach your wellness goals.

Common Signs of Emotional Eating

Eating for comfort is a universal habit that is not always a problem. That being said, engaging in emotional eating on a regular basis can begin to interfere with your health. Here are some common signs of emotional eating:

  • You eat when you feel stressed, anxious, bored or sad.

  • Your day to day diet seems healthy but you have episodes of overeating that are influenced by your mood.

  • You regularly eat/graze when you’re not actually hungry.

  • You eat to feel a sense of control when you can’t control other things in your life.

  • You feel guilty after eating too much or after eating “bad” food.

  • When you eat “bad” food like sweets or chips you feel like giving up and eating unhealthy for the rest of the day.

  • When you fall off track with your diet goals, you overeat or binge because you feel discouraged.

Eating to soothe emotions on a regular basis is often a sign that you may need more support with your stress management and mental health.

People who struggle with emotional eating often feel guilty about their food choices. If this sound like you, you may find yourself stuck in a cycle of guilt, deprivation and overeating. This is why when you’re trying to overcome emotional eating, it’s important to have a plan that is not too restrictive and that won’t perpetuate this cycle.

How The Program Works

The Healing Emotional Eating program involves 3 individualized sessions. Throughout each session, we will be using various tools like dietary changes, herbal remedies, nutritional supplements, lifestyle and mindset changes to help you overcome emotional eating and cravings. Your insurance may cover these visits if you have coverage for a naturopathic doctor.

SESSION 1: Gather and Begin

In this session, I will ask you detailed questions to get a sense of what physical and mental health factors are contributing to your emotional eating, determine if testing would be helpful, and begin optimizing your diet and/or supplement plan to minimize cravings.

Fee: $200, duration 1 hour

SESSION 2: Focus on the Mind

During your second visit, we will dive deeper into the underlying mental health factors that are contributing to your emotional eating. We’ll address factors like anxiety, low mood, stress, boredom, burnout, guilt around eating, and other important aspects of your relationship with food.

Fee: $150, duration 45 minutes

SESSION 3: Focus on the Body

In this session, we will address physical factors that may be contributing to cravings and emotional distress such as, hormonal imbalances, premenstrual syndrome, gut health, inflammation, poor sleep, and exercise.

Fee: $150, duration 45 minutes

After these 3 sessions, if needed, we can come up with a follow up plan that works best for you.
